Preliminary Count Shows Keiko Fujimori Winning Peru's Presidential Runoff

LIMA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Updated preliminary results from Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes showed Tuesday night that Keiko Fujimori, candidate of the right-wing Popular Force party as having won the country's presidential runoff election, Xinhua reported.

Earlier on June 19, Peru's left-wing presidential candidate Roberto Sanchez had led supporters in a protest on June 19, alleging irregularities at the electoral authority.

Reuters reported that members of a Special Electoral Jury had reviewed ballot papers at the National Jury of Elections (JNE) as Sanchez had said he would not recognize the result of the country's presidential runoff, alleging fraud.

Fujimori has maintained a narrow lead in the race.
