Record US$1.29 Million Found In Bangladesh Mosque Donation Boxes

DHAKA, June 28 (NNN-UNB) -- A record-breaking sum of more than Tk 15 crore (US$1.29 million) was found in the donation boxes of the historic Pagla Masjid in Kishoreganj after a daylong count on Saturday, marking the highest amount ever collected in the mosque’s history, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) reported.

Additional District Magistrate Md Ershadul Ahmed confirmed that a total of Tk 15,90,80,146 (US$1.29 million) was collected from 13 iron donation boxes of the mosque in the Harua area beside the Narsunda River in Kishoreganj.

He added that the donation boxes were opened at 7 am and the counting ended at 8 pm.

Around 590 people, including members of the mosque management committee, teachers and students from the madrasa and orphanage located within the mosque complex, students from nearby Jamia Imdadia Madrasa, and officials of Rupali Bank took part in the counting process.

The boxes were last opened on December 27, 2025, and Tk 11.78 crore (US$956,000) was collected from them.

Earlier, Pagla Mosque authorities in Kishoreganj collected 43 sacks of cash and gold from the donation boxes on Saturday morning, six months after the last count.

The amount was later deposited into the Pagla Mosque account at Rupali Bank. Gold, silver and foreign currency collected at that time were also sealed and deposited with the district treasury.

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and President of the mosque management committee Sohana Nasrin said the donation boxes—consisting of 10 permanent chests and three temporary trunks—were opened after being completely filled.

The mosque currently has Tk 114.13 crore (US$9.27 million) in its total fund.
