Cloudburst-Triggered Floods Devastate Pakistan's Northern Valley, Displace Dozens
ISLAMABAD, June 28 (NNN-Xinhua) -- A cloudburst-triggered flash flood swept through Thore Valley in Pakistan's northern Gilgit-Baltistan region on Saturday, damaging homes, farmland, roads and public infrastructure, local authorities said, reported Xinhua.
The flooding in Diamer district displaced dozens of families, destroyed link roads and communication bridges, disrupted electricity and water supplies, and inundated nearby settlements.
"The district administration responded immediately and intensified relief operations in the affected areas," Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority Assistant Director General Imtiaz Ahmed said.
He said that food supplies, tents and other essential relief items were being distributed among affected families, adding that the valley's main road had been reopened while damage assessment was underway.
"Authorities are working to restore access and provide immediate assistance to families affected by the flooding," Ahmed said.
