Cambodia's Angkor Records 387,772 International Tourists In H1 2026
PHNOM PENH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's renowned Angkor Archaeological Park attracted a total of 387,772 international visitors in the first half of 2026, a year-on-year decline of 31.7 percent, said a press release on Wednesday.
The UNESCO-listed world heritage site made 18.47 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales during the January-June period this year, down 29.8 percent year-on-year, said the press release from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.
Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-km park, the kingdom's most popular tourist destination, is home to 91 ancient temples, which had been built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the drop in the international tourist arrivals was likely due to global and regional economic slowdowns, online scam issue, and border conflict with Thailand.
"This significant decline has been exacerbated by the Middle East conflict, which has driven a rise in fuel prices and disrupted some flights," he told Xinhua.
