World Cup: US Embassy In Mexico Warns Citizens To Be On Alert For England Game

MEXICO CITY, July 5 (NNN-dpa) -- The US embassy in Mexico City has urged its citizens to take special care ahead of the World Cup last-16 match between Mexico and England later on Sunday.

The match is due to kick off at 6 pm (0000 GMT Monday).

Large crowds are expected in the capital and nationwide at fan events. The US embassy warned that recent public viewings had seen injuries and deaths due to overcrowding.

The embassy also warned of possible demonstrations.

"Take extra precautions and maintain situational awareness," the embassy told US citizens in Mexico in a statement.

Under Mexican law, foreign nationals are not allowed to take part in political demonstrations. Violations could lead to arrest or deportation.

Mexico is co-hosting the World Cup along with the US and Canada.
