OIC Secretary-General Condemns Israeli Raid On UNRWA Headquarters In North Jerusalem

JEDDAH, Aug 26 (NNN-WAFA) -- The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ raid on and evacuation of the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Qalandiya area, north of occupied Jerusalem, Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported.

In a statement, he described the raid on and evacuation of UNRWA’s headquarters as a further escalation in the targeting of the agency and its facilities in occupied Jerusalem.

Taha warned that the continued targeting of United Nations institutions, particularly UNRWA and its facilities, represented a dangerous escalation threatening the rights of Palestinian refugees and deepening their humanitarian suffering.

He emphasised that the agency plays an essential and irreplaceable role in providing educational, health, relief and social services to Palestinian refugees amid the ongoing refugee crisis.

He called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the United Nations (UN), to fulfil their responsibilities by halting Israeli actions against UNRWA and its facilities, protecting the agency and its staff, and enabling it to continue providing services to Palestinian refugees without hindrance, in accordance with its legal mandate and relevant UN resolutions.

Taha reiterated the OIC’s full support for UNRWA and its legal mandate, emphasising that its continued operation represents an international responsibility and a testament to the international community’s commitment to the Palestinian refugee issue until a just and lasting solution is reached in accordance with international law.

He also reaffirmed the OIC’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable national rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
