Israeli Attacks Kill 1,021 Palestinians Since Gaza Ceasefire, Death Toll Hits 73,032
RAMALLAH, June 23 (NNN) -- Israeli military operations have killed 1,021 Palestinians since the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, raising the overall death toll in the enclave to 73,032 since October 2023, according to the latest Situation Report issued by the Palestinian Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday.
The Government Communication Centre said humanitarian conditions in Gaza continued to deteriorate as Israeli bombardments and restrictions on aid delivery persisted, with severe shortages of clean water forcing most residents to rely on limited humanitarian supplies.
It said nearly one million Palestinians were currently living in tents after Israeli military operations destroyed or damaged 76.6 per cent of Gaza's housing stock and restrictions continued to hamper humanitarian operations across the enclave.
The report said Israeli attacks over the past week included air and drone strikes in Nuseirat, Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis and Gaza City, causing additional civilian casualties and worsening living conditions.
According to UNICEF, 265 Palestinian children have been killed and more than 400 injured since the announcement of the ceasefire, while Oxfam told the United Nations Security Council that Israeli restrictions continued to obstruct humanitarian access and the delivery of life-saving assistance.
The report also highlighted concerns over Israeli control of planning and construction powers at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, saying the move undermined arrangements established under the 1997 Hebron Agreement and violated international law.
Meanwhile, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported a significant increase in the forced displacement of Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, due to settler attacks, home demolitions, movement restrictions and forced evictions.
The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture documented the destruction of 7,258 trees, including 1,270 olive trees, and estimated losses of about US$5.17 million due to attacks by Israeli settlers and occupation forces. Separately, arson attacks targeted two mosques in the villages of Jiljilya and Mazra‘ al-Nubani.
The report said Israeli military operations in Jenin, Tulkarem and Nour Shams refugee camps had displaced more than 33,000 Palestinians since January 2025, while prisoners' institutions raised concerns over deteriorating conditions, overcrowding and the spread of diseases in Israeli detention facilities.
Despite the ongoing conflict and financial constraints, the Palestinian government said it had completed preparations for this year's General Secondary Education Examination, which involves about 91,000 students, including around 37,000 in Gaza, who are sitting for the examinations electronically for the third consecutive year.
