US Violated MoU According To Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher, IRNA Reports
TEHRAN, July 8 -- Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has condemned the United States for violating a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU), saying Washington’s actions demonstrate a continued policy of pressure against Iran despite previous understandings, IRNA reported.
In a post on X early Wednesday, Ghalibaf listed the “major MOU violations by the US,” including “violating Iranian adjustments in the Strait,” “persistent threats of further strikes,” “reinstating oil sanctions,” “attacks on southern Iran,” and Israel's “continued aggression on Lebanon.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry meanwhile issued a statement condemning the United States’ revocation of its waiver for Iranian oil sanctions, calling it a violation of the MoU, and that Washington bore full responsibility for any consequences arising from the breach.
The ministry issued the statement early Wednesday, hours after the US Treasury Department revoked the temporary waiver issued under the MoU that had allowed Iran to sell oil.
The MoU, electronically signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States on June 18, provides a framework for negotiations between Tehran and Washington aimed at permanently ending the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28. The document followed months of negotiations, mainly facilitated by Pakistan, and is known as the Islamabad Memorandum.
“Less than 20 days after the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was signed, the announcement revoking the general license issued on June 21 is yet another indication of the US administration’s bad faith, inconsistency, and unreliability,” the ministry said in the statement.
It added that the revocation came after the United States had already committed both major and minor violations of the MoU over the past 20 days, either directly or through Israel’s actions in Lebanon.
