Over 76,000 Afghan Refugees Repatriated In Single Month

KABUL, July 8 (Xinhua) -- More than 76,000 Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran and Pakistan over the past month, officials said Tuesday.

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Afghan government, announced that 76,181 returnees have crossed back into the country, all of whom have received essential humanitarian assistance, including food rations, potable water, medical services, and complimentary transportation to their respective provinces of origin.

The repatriation surge was underscored during a high-level meeting in Kabul on Tuesday, where Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi told senior officials from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) that over 8 million refugees have returned to Afghanistan since the government assumed power in August 2021.
