Singapore Closely Monitors Air Quality Amid Escalating Hotspot Activity

SINGAPORE, Aug 24 (NNN) -- Singapore has stepped up monitoring of air quality after observing surge in hotspots and smoke activity in part of Indonesia over the weekend.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said hotspots and dense smoke plumes were detected mainly in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, while some smoke plumes were also observed in Riau, raising the possibility of hazy conditions affecting Singapore in the coming days.

NEA said Singapore’s 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranged from 68 to 90, within the Moderate range, on Monday, with the central region recording a PSI reading of 91 as at 2 pm.

"Dry conditions are expected to persist during the week,” it added.
